Research for ‘The Josun of Legend’ has been insignificant, including the entire overview and analysis about the tales contained within. Nonetheless, great attention has been paid to the first tale publication compiling all the Korean folktales. This study examines how ‘The Josun of Legend’ classified the tales, thus to find out the compiler Miwa Tamaki’s intention and characteristic of the tales. It is assured that ‘The Josun of Legend’ placed a high importance on whether to refer clearly to the names of people and places. Meanwhile, ‘Taekriji’ by Lee Chunghwan, which is the representative geography book of the Joseon Dynasty, has been often published referring to the undertaking of Joseon’s classic book publication during the Japanese colonial era. So, this study examines the relation of tales between ‘Taekriji’ and ‘The Josun of Legend’. In addition, this study classifies fourteen stories of ‘Taekriji’. Miwa showed a special interest in mysterious tales that contained historical facts or places, but that could not be proven scientifically. This viewpoint of the author influenced the classification of ‘The Josun of Legend’ and its tale selection, on the basis of presenting the clear place name.-
