Abstract
The purpose of this study was to describe the difficulties which female physical education teachers have experienced as a soccer director using self-study method and to interpret and discuss about such difficulties from an insider's point of view focusing on the topic of "gender". In conducting this self-study, the study subjects' daily records as an athletic director were collected as main data and other documents (game records, consultation and discussion records) were collected as supplementary data. Such data were analyzed through a five-stage qualitative data analysis process (transcription - memo - open coding - in-depth coding - subject discovery). As a result of the self-study, the difficulties experienced by female physical education teachers as soccer team directors were shown to be, first, the "gender culture" based on athletic events and statuses, second, the "face of gender" in terms of ability, and third, the "leadership of gender" which served as a standard to evaluate leadership.
