Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the association between waist circumference (WC), abdominal muscle endurance, metabolic syndrome risk factors, and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) among middle-age female in korea. A total of 251 middle-age female(age: 49.01±5.03years) participated in the cross-sectional study. We measured body mass index(BMI), abdominal muscle endurance, and metabolic syndrome risk factors included WC, fasting glucose, triglyceride(TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), systolic blood pressure(SBP), diastolic blood pressure(DBP). The results showed that middle-age female with high (74㎝<WC) group had significantly increased body mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and HbA1c more than middle(70㎝≤WC≤74㎝) and low WC(WC<70㎝) groups. Further analysis also showed the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was significantly increased 11.74 times in high WC and low abdominal muscle endurance group(Odds ratio (OR): 11.74, 95% CI: 2.60-52.94) compared to low WC and high abdominal muscle endurance group(Ref OR: 1). In conclusion, this study showed that improvement of reduction of WC and abdominal muscle endurance is important factors for the prevention of metabolic syndrome among middle-age female in Korea.
