Abstract
The aim of this study is to assess the effect of self-based exercise education for Quality of Life (QoL) index of the breast cancer resection patients. The twenty subjects were participated and divided randomly into the education group, and the control group. They had commonly physical therapies in the hospital for 4 weeks, but the education group conducted additional intervention ad the home-based exercise for same duration. Beore and after the interventions, the QoL index including 8 categories was conducted for two groups. First, there was significant improvements on physical function (Z=-2.401, p=.016), role limitations due to physical health (Z=-2.588, p=.010), body pain (Z=-2.588, p=.010), general health (Z=-2.214, p=.027), vitality (Z=-2.032, p=.042), and social function (Z=-2.414, p=.016) in the education group. Second, there was significant improvements only on role limitations due to physical health (Z=-2.070, p=.038), and role limitations due to emotional problem (Z=-2.333, p=.020) in the control group. In conclusion we found that there is significant improvements of QoL index in the education group. Therefore, the home-based exercise for breast cancer resection patients would be a novel intervention to improve quality of life.
