Abstract
The purpose of the study is to develop a new Poomsae Attack and Defence Drill (PADD) and to test its training effects in order to enhance the performance skill in the real tournament. Through literature analysis of official Poomsae, a new Poomsae training program for youth, named ‘Bukdoochilsung’ has been developed. To verify the effect of the new Poomsae training programs, total of fourteen subjects have been trained for eight weeks. All the subjects submitted a in-depth interview after a survey showed results as follows. The new PADD construct a series of techniques of attack and defence by simulating a match with training partner. The PADD construct of basic and modified skills of attack and defence, standing, and blocking, punching, stabbing, striking, kicking, holding, withholding, breaking, overturning, pushing, and escaping. Also, it has total of one hundred and twenty movement. The study showed that the PADD enhanced the abilities in Poomsae techniques. The trainees could understand better on the concept of Poomsae and the purpose of adopting a detailed Poomsae skill in the real match by training PADD. Also, they showed a better abilities in distance control and posture as well as controling of power and speed. In conclusion, the development of the PADD and its application could enhance not only a real match training but also help to understand better the meaning and value of Taekwondo Poomsae training.
