Abstract
This study aims to propose an efficient teaching strategy focused on learners, by systematically applying learning motivation strategies to college volleyball classes as liberal arts education based on Keller’s (1983) ARCS model. For the purpose of this, this study carried out a survey oriented to 27 college students (including two auditing students) taking volleyball classes as a subject for liberal arts of the second semester of 2019 of Y University located in the I City. The material collection counted on open-ended questions, reflective journal (class journal), participant observation and in-depth interviews. According to the research results, as for Attention (A) strategies, they constituted “challenge volleyball: Today mission! Volleyball Grand Festival: The League of our own.” As for Relation (R) strategies, they turned out to be group classes such as “One Team, One Spirit” and “Let’s go on a picnic to the volleyball court.” As for Confidence (C) strategies, they were demonstrated in application of modified rules. For Satisfaction (S) strategies, they manifested through development as a pastime activity and making new friends. This study has academic significance in the sense that the research results provided a basic material to increase professionalism in teaching methods of college physical education classes as liberal arts education by confirming the applicability of Keller’s ARCS model.
