Korean traditional music instrument and educational mobile tool

Abstract

Daegeum, one of Korean traditional music instruments, has over a thousand year history and is still revered in Korean culture as a major instrument. However, Daegeum is not very popular because playing the instrument is difficult and the material of the instrument is not easily obtained. Thus, this study instead provides a smartphone application of the instrument for enhancing user friendliness and educational achievement. We also describe history, musical feature, and performers of Daegeum. We hope this approach to inspire other researchers in similar situation, who may find easier way from devising a mobile instrument instead of real one. © 2017 International Information Institute.
