- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to observe the mechanisms of sports grit and to reveal in depth how preparations and management should be implemented for the grit growth of athletes. Research was conducted on 9 national team members and professional athletes by applying the ground theory of Stauss and Corbin(1998) and a theoretical situational model was deduced for the process through which athletes form grit through a process of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding and the following results were gained. First, a total of 144 concepts, 16 subcategories, and 7 categories were deduced through open coding. Second, the 6 paradigm elements of motivation, goal settingt, a recognition of the importance of sports grit, the formation of sports grit, crisis experiences, resilience, and sports grit growth appeared through axial coding and relationships among each of the categories were revealed. Third, sports grit growth was deduced through selective coding and presentations were made of growth processes through which athletes can individually develop grit internally through overall story outlines.
