dc.description.abstractIn this paper, it is thought that revealing the spatial characteristics of Renzo Piano, an architect selected for the world-famous museum extension, will be an important reference for future museum expansion. Therefore, to analyze the spatial characteristics of Renzo Piano's museum by combining the characteristics of Renzo piano's museum design and spatial variables to be examined in the museum's extension, the space for the museum's expansion designed by Renzo Piano was analyzed. And the results are as follows: First, Renzo Piano has been shown to properly reflect the formative, material and color features shown in the architecture of the old building in the museum's extension to the new building. Second, various ways of connecting the old and the new buildings were naturally connected. In addition, the concept of space separation (influenced by Louis Khan) that separates exhibition spaces and support facilities by forming new entrances or large spaces was used to minimize confusion in the viewing routes between the old and new buildings. Third, utilizing the piano's unique skylight structure, which filters out the natural light in the North, the supporting facilities created a brighter and more lively atmosphere, and the exhibition space created an atmosphere where visitors could appreciate the works in a quieter and calmer atmosphere. In this paper, the spatial characteristics of the museum expanded by Renzo Piano were analyzed based on three analysis variables. And the result showed that Renzo Piano, based on its excellent interpretation of old customs and local contexts, plans a museum that contains its own design philosophy well. Although the analysis was conducted based on three analysis variables in this study, it is estimated that more detailed analysis studies will be needed considering the external space or exhibition in the future.-
