In order to reduce the extent of hydroxide and carbonate formation on (Mg,Ca)O protective layer during sealing step, panels were sealed while Ar-5H2 gas was flown between front and rear plates assembled. The gas was supplied up to a temperature below sealing took place. This processing scheme lowered firing and sustaining voltages of the panels significantly, demonstrating a practical way to seal the panel. © 2012 SID.-
