dc.description.abstractBuilding information modeling (BIM) is expanding its scope from the building industry to the infrastructure industry. The Korean government is also preparing for the transition. The public procurement service of Korea (PPS) announced that, from 2016, all public projects custom-managed by PPS must use BIM. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Korea (MOLIT) also announced a goal that, by 2020, 20% of all infrastructure projects will adopt BIM. The rail industry has recently begun a pilot BIM project and deployed 3D visualization, quantity check, 4D simulation, etc., but without any strategy plan, although it is essential for owner to have a strategy BIM adoption plan for successful BIM diffusion. Through literature review, an interview, a survey, and a case study of a pilot BIM project, this paper proposes a public owner's perspective strategy for adopting BIM in the Korean rail industry. © 2018 The Korean Society for Railway.
