- Abstract
- Nuclear terrorism has been much feared. At least since the 1980s, warnings on nuclear bomb attacks by terrorists have been raised among a circle of experts and policy makers. However, a majority of security experts and administrators thought that the real probability of such incident was too remote. Nuclear terrorism issues remained a worrisome fear with extremely remote possibility. None the less, the security concerns on nuclear terrorism cannot be easily dismissed. Given the potentially cataclysmic consequences of an action of nuclear terrorism, and the chaos that would ensue from even a single credible terrorist nuclear threat, there may not be luxury to wait for the first incident of nuclear terrorism indeed comes into being. Despite its low-probability, its high-consequence, even a slight possibility of nuclear terrorism needs to be the subject of close watch. The current research has certain merits on various grounds proposed above. Nuclear terrorism is an important issue to be studies and understood. Policy implications and preparedness is rightly requested due to the gravity of the issue. This article discusses on potential perpetrators of nuclear terrorism, different types of nuclear terrorism, potential damages and necessary tools of nuclear terrorism, and several policy implications against nuclear terrorism in the future.
