STATISTICAL PREPARATION IN MASTER'S PROGRAMME OF SPORT MANAGEMENT

Title: STATISTICAL PREPARATION IN MASTER'S PROGRAMME OF SPORT MANAGEMENT
Authors: Kim, Myoung-Jin; Cho, Seong-Sik
Abstract: Although statistics education is the foundation for a core analytical ability required in many workplaces and in doctoral study, little is known about the preparation of statistics training of sport management graduates enrolled in master's programmes in the United States (U.S.). Technological advances are changing the game experience through the enormous amounts of data produced. The purpose of this descriptive and exploratory study was to examine the current state of statistics requirements for master's programmes in sport management and to make recommendations for students' statistics preparation towards workplace demands and doctoral study. Data was collected from the websites of all 241 sport management programmes that offer master's degrees across the U.S. Each school's website for plans of study and/or graduate curriculum requirements in statistics was examined. Results showed that only 5.8% of programmes require an undergraduate level statistics course as an admission criterion, and 33.2% of programmes require a master's level statistics course for programme completion. Reflecting trends toward the progressive growth of statistical analysis in the field, sport management programmes should improve the statistics preparation of master's students.

Authors: 박성배; 권태근
Abstract: Purpose: The main purpose of this current study is to track and thus vealuate the legacies of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Method: The data were collected via Web-crawling [by the R program]o fr four separate periods with regards to the legacies of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter OlympicsS. ocial Network Analysis (SNA) and a cluster analysis through the CONCOR were conducted to identify both implications and network characteristics of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Results: The results indicated that the Korean online media outlets wre not successful to identify and re-c ognize the universally agreed Olympic legacies of which the IOC has asserted for several decades. During the four separate periods before and after the Olympics the most frequently occurred issue on the Korean online media was about the post-utilization of the Olympic venues. However, the trend of the main theme regarding the legacies of the PyeongChang Olympics was transformed into Global Peace through the Olympics.
Conclusion: In conclusion, this study found that the legacies of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics did not occur spontaneously out of the inherent value or the natur eof the Olympic Charter, but were more likely to be created and affected by published newspaper articles in which a public consensus among the Korean citizens could reach.

Abstract: Purpose: Firstly, it is to identify issues and challenges that the South Korea Women’s national volleyball team select and treat its players. Secondly, it is to identify the potential issues and problems in the process of national team selection and thus suggest the critical implications to the managers and administrators in the field. Method: In order to achieve the proposed research goals and objectives, South Korea national women’s volleyball team members (i.e., players, team doctors, trainers, and fans) were approached and asked in-depth face-to-face interviews. Results: First, South Korea women’s nationally volleyball team members strongly agreed that the allowed number of players on the team roster should be increased in order to minimize the chances of being injured and exploited. Second, they asserted that the financial compensations, incentives and perks were not quite close to what they believed they deserve. Lastly, they strongly suggest that the national youth team development program was desperately needed and required to better perform in the international competitions in the future. Conclusion: In summary, the findings in this study confirm that the Korea Volleyball Association, which manages the national teams, and the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO), which supervises the professional volleyball league, should provide financial support conditions to motivate the team & better training environment.

Title: Online bandwagon effects: Quantitative versus qualitative cues in online comments sections
Authors: Lee, Seungae; Atkinson, Lucy; Sung, Yoon Hi
Abstract: Bandwagon effects explain an individual's tendency to conform to and follow other people's opinions. Drawing on bandwagon effects, this study explored the relative influence of two different bandwagon heuristic cues in an online comments section (quantitative vs qualitative) on changes in news readers' opinion. Study 1 revealed that qualitative cues have a stronger effect than quantitative cues in changing news readers' opinions. Study 2 replicated the findings of Study 1 and showed that people change opinions in the same direction as perceived public opinion, providing empirical evidence of online bandwagon effects. The findings offer theoretical insights by explicating the process of opinion change via perceived public opinion as well as practical insights into public opinion formation in online environments.
