dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to evaluate the energy saving potentials of a hollow fiber membrane dehumidification-based energy recovery ventilation system via a series of energy simulations. The proposed ventilation system is composed of an air-to-air hollow fiber membrane-based latent heat exchanger and flat plate sensible heat exchanger. According to the outdoor air conditions, the operation strategies of the proposed system could be classified into four type: total heat exchange mode, sensible heat exchange mode, latent heat exchange mode, and by-pass mode. For evaluating the energy and operating performance of the proposed system, the commercial energy recovery ventilator (ERV) system was chosen as a reference system. The simulation results present that the proposed system could provide the ventilation air at nearly neutral humidity ratio owing to the higher latent exchange effectiveness. In addition, the hollow fiber membrane latent heat exchanger in the proposed system could reduce 42% of the latent load in the introduced outdoor air. Therefore, the proposed system could conserve 26.5% of the primary energy consumption compared with the reference system.-
