| dc.description.abstract | In recent years, the proportion of young adult in one-person households has increased. Young adults pay high housing costs relative to their monthly income, and it is a problem. However, the emergence of co-living houses has eased the economic burden on young adults. In the past, many young adults lived in shared houses, sharing the living room, kitchen, and bathrooms. Co-living houses have a bedroom and a bathroom in each private space, creating private boundaries, and there are physical exercise spaces, a rooftop, and hobby spaces, facilitating the use of various living services and creating a community of residents. Therefore, this study classified various common spaces in co-living houses to analyze the characteristics of the spaces. We targeted young employed adults who are tenants and selected five co-living houses in Gangnam District and Seocho District where companies are most densely concentrated. We derived a checklist using theoretical considerations that are related to common spaces and conducted case analysis through field surveys. To summarize the research results, we classified common spaces into community spaces, leisure activity spaces, and work activity spaces. Community spaces included a rooftop, pet playing, and lounge; leisure activity spaces included a physical training room; and work activity spaces included a meeting room. Four types of spatial characteristics were derived for the common spaces, and they included: openness, accessibility, expandability, and interactivity. Among the characteristics, openness was the highest and expandability was the lowest. In common spaces, there are many glass walls, and visual openness is high because of outdoor spaces such as the rooftop. However, the area sizes of spaces are difficult to change because there are no variable furniture, such as ready-to-assemble furniture, moveable furniture, and partitions. Therefore, moving walls or ready-to-assemble furniture should be provided to allow flexible expansion and separation of spaces or changes in furniture layout; therefore, young adults can perform various functions depending on their intending purpose for the common spaces. | - |
