이주민 밀집지역 내 학교-가정-지역사회 연계 정도는 어떤 학교에서 높을까? 학교장의 문화감응적 리더십의 중요성

Abstract

본 연구는 교사의 ‘문화감응성’에 대한 기존의 논의를 확장하여, 학교장의 문화감응적 리더십의 중요성을 조명한다. 구체적으로, 이주민 밀집지역 소재 학교에서 학교장의 문화감응적 교수리더십이 효과적으로 발휘될수록 해당 학교는 가정 및 지역사회의다양한 자원을 학교 내 교육활동 자원과 연계하여 활용할 것이라는 가설을 설정하였다. 이를 실증적으로 검토하기 위해, 서울·경기 이주민 밀집지역 소재 32개 초·중학교자료에 대한 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 학교장의 문화감응적 교수리더십이 높은수준으로 발휘되는 학교일수록 학교수준에서 가정 및 지역사회와 연계를 지원하는 환경이 더욱 잘 조성되어 있는 경향이 포착되었다. 이러한 결과는 학교장의 문화감응적리더십이 다문화 친화적인 자생적 학교개혁에 중요한 추동력을 제공할 수 있음을 시사하는 것이다. 이를 바탕으로, 학교장의 문화감응적 리더십 실천 및 관련 전문성 계발과관련한 함의를 논의한다.

This study aims to understand how school improvement can be better achieved in local areas of immigrant concentration. Drawing on a culturally responsive school leadership perspective, this study hypothesizes the positive effect of culturally responsive principal leadership on school improvement achieved through school-family-community partnerships. A subset of the data from the Korea Multicultural Education Survey 2017 has been used to examine this hypothesis. The result shows a strong positive association between culturally responsive principal leadership and school-family-community partnerships. Schools led by principals who demonstrate a higher level of culturally responsive leadership tend to have stronger school-family-community partnerships. This result sheds light on the important role of school leaders in developing partnerships for school improvement. This study provides useful implications for leadership practices and professional development in multicultural school settings.
