Abstract
The penetration of Islam into Dagestan lasted for almost a whole millennium. Initially, Islam became entrenched in the Derbent Emirate, from where it spread to the territory of southern and southeastern Dagestan. It is important to emphasize that despite the different times of the adoption of Islam among the various groups of Vainakhs, this process proceeded very slowly, stretching over several centuries.
