| dc.description.abstract | In this article, a new kind quantum light source, a single photon source, is introduced. In contrast to other pre-existing light sources, the single photon source enables us to ‘get’ single photons on demand. This is a truly remarkable merit of the single photon source, so that source has been discussed as the building block of many quantum optical applications like quantum cryptography, optical quantum computation, quantum imaging, and metrology. However, the feasibility of these applications depends on the avail- ability of single photons with a high fidelity. Here, the gen- eration mechanism for single photons from nano-sized sin- gle emitters and several cutting edge technologies to en- hance the ‘quality’ of single photon sources are discussed. | - |
