Abstract
‘Aging’ is a key issue all around the world and many cities are making diverse efforts to build cities where are comfortable for the elderly, do not alienate the elderly and are good to live, according to ‘the Eight Domains of Age-Friendly City’ recommended by WHO GNAFCC. But it does not provide a specific guide to creation of internal and external physical environments, since the contents are too comprehensive. This study aims to examine evaluation indicators for creating spaces that put much value on spatial convenience and practicality for the elderly, emotions, needs, desires and experiences in welfare facilities for the elderly, by analyzing features of emotional UX design. For this study, features of emotional UX design were analyzed, based on theoretical considerations and previous studies, the appropriateness and the validity of the evaluation indicators were verified using FGI, and behaviors and desires of the aged were investigated with experts. The evaluation indicators extracted from the study were rated on a 6-point Likert scale. The evaluation indicators were classified into three domains: physical environment, aesthetic and emotional atmosphere and social meaning, and specific elements of each domain are as follows. Usefulness and convenient usability were extracted from the indoor structure domain, safe structure and safety prevention were extracted from the safety domain, caring physical environment, barrier-free and visual consideration were extracted from the accessibility domain, amenity, intimacy and satisfaction were extracted from the aesthetic environment domain, self-esteem, diversion, non-everydayness were extracted from the emotional understanding domain, sensory experience, dynamics and relationship were extracted from the mutual application domain, and a sense of belonging and identity were extracted from the social needs domain. It is anticipated that this study will help in establishing an effective direction to create spaces for the elderly and using emotional UX design properly in future.
