| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to investigate the energy saving potential of a thermoelectric radiant panel (TERP) with a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) in high-speed train cabins. The DOAS accommodates the latent loads and meets the minimum ventilation requirements of the cabins. TERP is aluminum panels that is cooled or heated using thermoelectric modules (TEMs) attached on the top side of the panel. It is installed at the ceiling of the cabins to accommodate the remaining sensible loads which could not be met by the DOAS. A heat sink is attached to the top side of each TEMs for releasing heat to the outdoor air in the cooling mode and for absorbing heat from the outdoor air in the heating mode during system operation. In this study, the detailed energy simulations were conducted to investigate the energy saving potentials of the proposed system compared with the conventional variable air volume system in high-speed train cabins. The theoretical and empirical models of each system component were integrated to predict the energy performance of both systems. The results showed that the proposed system can save 32.6% of the annual operation energy. | - |
