- Abstract
- As children’s museums are spaces to provide various exhibition programs for children and play a role of efficient educational and cultural environment, their importance is being emphasized. Thus, in order to examine the current state of learning spaces of children’s museums, this study selected three children’s museums located in London, England, and then investigated the current state of learning spaces. As a result of the investigation, First, the placement of learning spaces in children’s museums involves a variety of types including the stand-alone type, the adjacent type, and the detachable type, with the adjacent type placed all over the exhibition space so as to increase the accessibility of children. Second, most cases used floor finishing materials that considered the safety of the children, and, for the ceiling finishing material, sound-absorbing textiles which reduce noise. On the other hand, color planning was expressed in dull colors, making it necessary to plan the use of colors that draw the children’s interest. Third, the learning spaces of children’s museums provide educational programs and systems for improving the creativity of children, which the researcher found to be an element inducing the learning and interest of children.
