Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of transverse reinforcement on he cyclic behavior of diagonally reinforced coupling beams. For this purpose, two coupling beam specimens were made and tested subjected to cyclic loading. Standard specimen was designed and detailed according to ACI 318-14, whereas the other specimen had identical reinforcement as he standard specimen except for the amount of transverse reinforcement (50% the transverse reinforcement of the standard specimen). The aspect ratio of the coupling beams was 2.0. The test results shows that the coupling beam with reduced transverse reinforcement has shear strength larger than calculated shear strength according to ACI 318-14. However, the shear strength and deformation capacity of the specimen were less than those of the standard specimen.
