- Abstract
- In this research, how climate change is perceived by festival staffs and adaptation strategies to climate change are analyzed by conducting qualitative in-depth interview. As a result, festival staffs experienced winter raining, cold-weather damage, unpredictable opening date of flowers, and change of advent date of migratory birds. Also, festival staffs experienced operating losses for climate change and visitors’ complaints for it, and also had difficulties from economical losses caused by decreased number of visitors. Nevertheless, festival staffs maintained passive attitude on climate change as they have no enough awareness on establishing network with the weather center. The efforts to reduce carbon emission and also its limitations to deal with were coexisting, and festival staffs were establishing strategies to climate change. As adaptation strategies, change of festival theme, installation of facilities to prepare for raining and cold weather, planning and managing new festival program, change of festival period, and enlarge or change of location for festivals were commented. As an empirical research, the implication of this research is to suggest festivals’ adaptation strategies to climate change by in-depth interview with festival staffs in a situation that there are lack of relevant research, and to provide practical solutions to festival staffs from a view of systematic adaptation strategies
