dc.description.abstractA low-profile tapered double cross patch antenna (TDCPA) with dual-band monopole-like radiation characteristic is proposed. The proposed TDCPA consists of a center-fed circular patch on the middle layer to excite a TM01 mode and a double cross patch on the top layer to generate the dual-band characteristic. The antenna has monopole-like radiation in the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) 2.45 GHz band and ISM 5.8 GHz band. The corresponding fractional 10-dB return loss bandwidths and maximum gains are 3.67% and 4.5 dBi for the lower frequency band and 14.7% and 6.5 dBi for the higher frequency band, respectively. The antenna has only 0.038 lambda(0) thickness.-
