- Abstract
- AISC 358 (2010) specifies the welded unreinforced flange-welded web (WUF-W) moment connection as a prequalified connection for a special moment frame (SMF). This study conducted experiments using four test WUF-W specimens subjected to reversed cyclic loads. The specimens satisfied the design and detail criteria specified in AISC 341 (2010) and AISC 358 (2010). In this study, the test variables were beam depth and panel zone strength ratio. It was observed that WUF-W connections with a 700 mm beam depth satisfied the qualification criteria for SMF connections whereas WUF connections with a 900 mm beam depth did not meet the criteria regardless of the panel zone strength ratios.
