- Abstract
- This research is based on <The Galaxy in the Mirror>, a production which took part in the 2014 35th Seoul Theatre Festival. It is a simplified and brief explanation of the development of the stage, starting from the pre-production to the day of the performance, where both the art director and the stage designer cooperated in visualizing the image that the director wants and also taking into consideration the analysis of the play and also the characters in the play.
The pre-production of <The Galaxy in the Mirror> was led by the art director. along with the stage designer, lighting designer, costume designer, prop designer and also those who are involved in the production of the script. As everyone knows, in order to realize a literature piece on stage, there are many problems and many factors to take into consideration while designing the visuals of it. In order to overcome these difficulties, it is very important for the art director to take into attention the message of the play, the mood of the play, the personalities of all the characters and also understand the actors who are playing those characters. Besides that, the structure of the venue must also be a concern and last but not least, the target audience. These are all very necessary factors that must be taken into account during the pre-production. Hence, this study is primarily based upon the importance of the visualization process of the script and how much it affects the whole production, particularly the stage design, as the stage plays a big role in the visualizing of a play, from the perspective of the art director.
