장르의 수사학(修辭學), 양식의 수사학(修史學): 몬테베르디의《탄크레디와 클로린다의 싸움》 (Combattimento di Tancredi et Clorinda, 1624)을 중심으로

Abstract

몬테베르디의 《탄크레디와 클로린다의 싸움》은 논쟁거리가 되는 작품이다. 특히 이 작품의 장르가 무엇인지 그리고 이 작품에서 사용된 ‘콘치타토’ 양식의 의미가 무엇인지 논란거리가 된다. 이 논문은 이 ‘논란거리’를 상세히 살펴 그것이 안내하는 역사적 세부사항들을 검토해 보고 다음과 같은 세가지 사항들을 밝히고 있다. 1) 17세기 초반 ‘마드리갈 곡집’이라는 개념이 ‘마드리갈’이라는 개념을 대신하기 시작했다. 2) 몬테베르디는 장르로서의 ‘콘치타토’와 양식으로서의 ‘콘치타토’를 혼동하고 있고이것이 이후 학자들 간 논란의 뿌리가 되고 있다. 3) “탄크레디”는 가사와 음악 간의 관계에 관한 몬테베르디의 생각의 역사를 한 작품 안에서드러내 보여준다. 마지막으로 이 논문은 이러한 ‘문제적’ 작품이 때로는‘전형적’ 작품보다 음악사의 여러 문맥들을 드러내 주는데 더 효과적이라고 주장한다.

Claudio Monteverdi’s Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda(1624) is a ‘problematic’ work. In terms of ‘genre’ and ‘style,’especially it has been created lively debates between scholars. The paper tries to reveal the reason why those concepts hadbecome problematic. As a result, the paper suggests thefollowings; 1) in the early seventeenth century, the concept of‘Madrigal’ has been slowly replaced by the concept of ‘MadrigalBook.’ 2) Monteverdi confused ‘concitato’ as a genre with‘concitato’ as a style. 3) “Combattimento” demonstrates thehistorical changes of Monteverdi’s thought on the relationshipbetween text and music. Finally, the paper suggests that it wasthe very ‘problems’ that leads the research into the richness ofhistorical details. Sometimes the ‘problematic’ works could leadthe research more productive than the ‘typical’ ones.
