Abstract
This paper presents a new approach to find the optimal design of a permanent magnetic actuator (PMA) which is widely used in industrial applications. To consider the whole components (permanent magnet, ferromagnetic material and coil) in the core of PMA, the multi-phase level-set model consists of several level-set functions is introduced. Each material’s property is defined by magnetic reluctivity, remanent flux density and current density to perform the magnetostatic analysis. The optimization problem is formulated through a multi-objective function for obtaining the optimal core design which satisfies all of the actuating condition of PMA. The design example of the PMA is provided to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method and to obtain the optimal core design for maximizing the magnetic performance.
