- Abstract
- We studied experimentally the influence of the lattice constant on the resonance frequencies of cut-wire pair structures, which are the essential components constituting left-handed materials (LHMs). We found that the magnetic resonance band became narrower as the lattice constant of the cut-wire pair was increased for both the E and the H directions. On the other hand, the low-frequency edge of the electric resonance band was strongly shifted to a lower frequency with decreasing lattice constant in the E direction, but remained nearly unchanged for the H direction. In addition, we also investigated how this affected the LH behavior of combined structures of cut-wire pair and continuous wire. These structures were designed, fabricated, and measured in the microwave frequency regime.
