백석 시의 세 가지 영향

Abstract

백석의 시편들은 정지용, 임화, 이용악 등과 함께 매우 중요한 근대 시인으로 연구자들의 호평은 물론 일반의 사랑까지 받고 있다. 이러한 문학사적 평가가 가능했던 이유는, 초기 시편에 대한 호의적 평판도 한 몫 했지만, 그를 일급의 서정 시인으로 끌어올린 것은 후기 시편 때문이라고 할 수 있다. 그래서인지, 후대의 시인들이 백석의 영향을 받을 때, 그 대상은 시집 『사슴』의 세계가 아니라 후기 시편들일 경우가 훨씬 많다. 『사슴』의 경우도 외재적 풍경의 인상적 묘사, 가난의 섬세한 세목들, 풍부한 유년 서사에 대한 추체험 등이 후대 시인들의 상상력을 광범위하게 자극하였을 것이지만, 그보다는 시인들이 긴 호흡에 실어 들려주는 생의 경험들에 대한 회상이 그의 후기 시편의 영향 아래 존재하는 경우가 훨씬 많은 것이다. 그렇다면 백석 시편들은 후대의 시인들에게 어떻게 틈입하는가. 대략 세 가지로 요약 가능하다는 것이 이 글의 관점이다. 하나는 근대적인 것에 대한 근원적인 반성적 전거와 ‘시각’보다는 ‘후각/미각’으로 경사된 그의 사물 인식 방법, 다른 하나는 ‘가난’의 시적 기표를 통해 소외되는 이들에 대한 따뜻한 연민의 세계를 보인 그의 현실 이해 방식, 마지막 하나는 운명 혹은 생의 형식에 대한 성찰의 태도와 그 특유의 산문시형이다. 이처럼 백석 시편은 강력한 자장을 형성하면서 한국 시의 한 고전으로 되새겨지고 있다 할 것이다.

Back Suk's poetry as very important poet with Jung Ji-yong, Lim Hwa, and Lee Yang-ak's poetry was received favorable criticism by literary men and loved by many people. We can say that his late poetry led to a top class lyric poet. Also he was received reputation on his early poetry with favor. So when later poets was affected by Back Suk's poetry, they were affected by late poetry rather than world of a collection of poems 'SaSeum'(the deer). Although impressible description of outer scenery, detail of poverty and experience of plentiful childhood stories in 'SaSeum' encouraged later poets' imagination widely, recollection on experience of Back Suk's life in his late poetry affected later poets. How did Back Suk's poetry affect later poets? This paper asserts that answers are three groups. One groups includes underlying meditative authority on modern things and recognition method of matters based on the sense of smell and taste rather than the sense of sight. Another is his understanding method on reality which he showed world of warm compassion on alienated people through poetic significant of poverty. The other groups are attitude of introspection on destiny or type of life and his unique form of prose poems. Like this Back Suk's poetry forms strong magnetic field and become classics of Korean poetry.
