Abstract
Optical properties of ZnO nanocrystals embedded in a PI insulating layer were investigated. TEM images and SADPs showed that ZnO nanocrystals were formed in the polymer layer. The green emission band for the ZnO nanocrystals embedded in a PI composite was attributed to the defects such as O vacancies originating from ZnO nanocrystals. Even though some detailed investigations on the formation and the optical properties of the ZnO nanocrystals without defects embedded in a PI layer remain to be clarified, these present observations can help us to improve understanding of the optical properties of ZnO nanocrystals embedded in a PI layer. Furthermore, the present results indicate that self-assembled ZnO nanocrystals embedded in a PI layer hold promise for potential applications in next-generation hybrid organic/inorganic light-emitting diodes.
