경주 남산 마애석불의 경관인식론적 해석

Abstract

This study aimed to interpretate the scenary and contents of the engraved stone buddhist on rock in Mt. Namsan, Gyeongju which is one of the most famous historic city of ancient Synlla dynasty in Korea. As a research tool, the theory of landscape cognition was introduced and the research was progressed by the literature review on myth, thoughts, tales etc. The field survey was also adapted for more details of the surrounding landscapes in the engraved stone buddhist. The results are as follows. The first, the engraved stone buddhists in Mt. Namsan were made to assimilate naive peoples' rock worship of the ancient Synlla dynasty into buddhism. The second, the engraved buddhists' locations have been determined as to their own grades. The higher grades are in the upper location. This type of formation is symbolic of Mt. Sumi which is the ideal world in Buddhism. The third, all of the engraved stone buddhist were located on the upper side than the stance on the approaching path along valley, and this form means the matter of worship of buddhist. The forth, the engraved stone buddhist of Avalokitesvara and Sakyamuni had the visual structures to be seen on the front position from the worshippers but, Amitabha didn't have the right angle view from the people on the front position, this form means the matter of the representing each of the present and ideal world of buddhist. The fifth, the all of the engraved stone buddhist were faced to the southwest and located on the southwest prospects of the topography, this form means the matter of the pursuit of the ideal world of buddhist.
