- Abstract
- In recent years, IoT elements are growing exponentially. The massive amount of data generated by these devices poses a daunting challenge for sensors and devices of limited capability and resources. Edge computing is considered as a promising solution to provide efficient data processing by bringing the computation capability closer to the network edge. However, edge computing vision faces several challenges in terms of security and application orchestration. This paper proposes a trusted containerized application orchestration framework by leveraging blockchain technology. The proposed approach is based on the Ethereum blockchain and Kubernetes container platforms to integrate access control and application orchestration in an edge networking environment. We evaluate the proposed approach through a proof-of-concept prototype implementation along with trusted orchestration operations. The result of our simulation study shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
