현대시조의 존재론을 위한 과제들

Abstract

서정 장르인 시조는 동일성 원리에 기대면서, 사물을 감각적으로 묘사하여 거기에 시인 자신의 정서를 입히는 방법, 근대적 시간을 뛰어넘으면서 신화적, 역사적, 경험적 시간을 재구성하는 방법, 사물에 새겨진 기억의 흔적을 거슬러 올라가는 작법을 통해 그 원리를 실현하고 있다. 이러한 다양한 작법에 의해 시조는 시인 자신의 감성 처리 방법을 얻어가고 있다. 또한 시조는 양식적 구속에도 불구하고 다양한 심층적 전언을 요청받고 있는데, 서정과 우의(寓意)의 균형을 통해 일정한 구심력을 주면서 이러한 과제에 부응하고 있다. 절제와 균형의 미학을 바탕으로 하는 시조는 서구 미학에 대한 항체(抗體)로 기능하면서도, 자체적으로는 모더니티를 완성해야 하는 이중의 책무를 띠고 있다. 그리고 세계문학으로 확장되어갈 때 번역이라는 문제가 개입하는데, 시상 전개 방식에 초점을 맞추어 번역하는 것이 가장 좋은 방법일 것이다. 이런 점들이 깊이 논의되어 시조 창작과 번역의 기율이 심화되어가기를 바란다.

Sijo, a lyrical genre, relies on the principle of identity. This principle is being realized through sensible descriptions while incorporating the poet"s own emotions, reconstructing mythical, historical, and empirical time while trancending modern time, tracing back to memory engraved on objects. Through these various means, Sijo finds a way to deal with the poet’s emotions. Furthermore, Sijo is solicited for various in-depth messages and despite its stylistic restraints, it responds to these tasks by enacting a certain centripetal force through the balance between lyricism and allegory. Sijo, based on the aesthetics of moderation and balance, functions as an antibody to Western aesthetics, while having the responsibility to complete modernity on its own. Moreover, Sijo extends to world literature, which leads to the problem of translation. The best way to perform translations is to focus on poetic descriptions. It is hoped that these points will be discussed in depth and that the discipline of the creation and translation of Sijo will be developed.
