dc.description.abstractThe Korean government and private sectors participating in the Emission Trading Scheme are expected to utilize a cooperative approach alongside sustainable development mechanisms of the Paris Agreement to achieve the 2030 greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions target. It is necessary to estimate the GHG emission abatement costs of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects to forecast the abatement costs of the two approaches found in the Paris Agreement; this is because these three approaches are market-based mechanisms. A few papers have estimated the abatement costs of CDM projects using information in conjunction with investment analysis, but these studies have various drawbacks such as discounting the emission reductions and extending the CDM project lifetimes to a technical lifetime. The purpose of this paper is to complement the current methodology of estimating the abatement costs of CDM projects. Complementary implications are drawn from a review of the current methodology used, and specific methodology to estimate the abatement costs of CDM projects are suggested based on an investment analysis of a simple cost analysis, investment comparison, and benchmark analysis. Additionally, a means of obtaining the necessary information for this methodology is suggested.-
