dc.description.abstractThe objective of this study is to propose a new nominal flexural strength for a compact composite I-section usinga high-performance steel HSB460 subjected to a negative moment, considering the effect of strain-hardening of HSB460. In astress-strain curve of HSB460, the strain-hardening occurs immediately after yielding, unlike conventional steels. Thestrain-hardening stress probably affects the ultimate flexural strength of the compact composite I-section. However, thedesign equations for nominal flexural strengths presented in AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification do not take into account the strain-hardening effect. In this paper, by conducting extensive parametric study with a wide range of compositeI-sections, the strain-hardening effect is analyzed. Based on the parametric study results, new equations for a nominal flexural strength for the compact composite I-section using HSB460 under the negative moment were proposed.-
