부모와 기혼 자녀의 지리적 근접성이 기혼 자녀의 첫 출산 시기에 미치는 영향

Abstract

신혼부부들은 일·가정 양립에 따른 시간자원의 부족으로 출산에 대한 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이러한 상황으로 인해 신혼부부들은 출산을 위해 부모의 시간적 지원에 의존하게 되었으며, 부모의 시간적 지원은 지리적 근접성에 따라 다르게 나타날 수 있다. 본 연구는 이에 주목하여 부모와 지리적 근접성이 자녀의 첫 출산시기에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 생존분석을 통해 실증하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 첫째, 전체적으로 지리적 근접성은 자녀의 첫 출산까지 소요기간을 단축시키는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 지역별로 비교해보면 지리적 근접성은 수도권에서만 중요하게 나타났다. 부모의 시간 지원에 따른 자녀 세대들 간의 차이는 출산과 같은 중요한 생애주기 전환에 불평등이 발생할 수 있으며, 특히 수도권에서 더욱 명확하게 나타날 수 있음을 시사한다. 이러한 현상을 완화하기 위해서는 일·가정 양립의 부담을 경감시키기 위한 심도 있는 출산지원 정책과 함께 유연한 근무제도 등의 정책적 노력이 필요하다.

Newlywed couples have a shortage of time due to work-family balance so that they are experiencing difficulty giving birth. Due to this situation, newlyweds have come to rely on their parents' time support to take care of grandchildren, and their parental time support may vary depending on geographical proximity. This study pays attention to it and demonstrates how geographical proximity between newlywed couple[married children] and their parents affects the first childbirth period through survival analysis. The results of this study show that, first, overall, geographic proximity shortens the time period required for a child's first childbirth. Second, when compared by regions, the geographic proximity is found to be important only in the metropolitan area. The difference of parents' time support between generations of married children suggests that it may cause inequality in important life cycle transitions such as childbirth, and the situation may appear more clearly, especially in the metropolitan area. In order to alleviate this phenomenon, the government policies such as a flexible working system along with in-depth childbirth support policies are needed to help married children to keep the work-family balance.
