| dc.description.abstract | Magnetic circuit designs are crucial to operations of many vacuum electronics devices, such as magnetrons, klystrons, and traveling wave tubes. For magnetrons, either electromagnets or permanent magnets are used. There are already some commercial software packages on the market for magnetic circuit designs such as Maxwell and COMSOL based on a finite element method (FEM). However, for a full simulation of these devices, one has to export the magnetic circuit design and import it into a particle-in-cell (PIC) code for studying particle-wave interaction as most of these packages are not PIC codes. In this work, we propose to use the magnetostatic solvers newly developed in VSim for conducting the magnetic circuit designs as the same finite difference grids are used, avoiding the troubles caused by an export/import process or additional errors due to a translation/interpolation. To understand the feasibility of employing the magnetostatic solvers, the simulation results are also compared with those from the FEM simulations. The detailed formulation and demonstrations will be presented and discussed. | - |
