Abstract
The active noise control is reduced unwanted sound by destructive interference between source and control sound. Its efficiency significantly increases for a stationary noise rather than a transient one. Impulsive noises generated at a floor, machine or impacting bodies are difficult to control by conventional active noise control strategies adopting feed forward control. The purpose of this study is to reduce a floor impact noise using an active noise control. The robust adaptive filter algorithm for an impulsive noise was based on a Filtered-X Least Mean Square algorithm. A source of noise was produced by standard heavy impact ball hitting a floor. To control the impact noise, the reference signal was modeled by Prony's method showing efficient representation of high damping characteristics. The algorithm of active impulsive noise control was verified by reducing floor impact noise at the error microphone.
