dc.description.abstractFor calculation of strong backward coupling coefficients of waveguide gratings with arbitrary shapes, a rigorous method based on the ray-optics approach is proposed. Calculation accuracy depends on only on the limit of the rigorous coupled-wave theory used in the method.-
