글레이저와 스트라우스의 근거이론 비교: 공무원의 감정노동 연구사례 적용

Abstract

본 연구는 공무원의 감정노동에 관한 연구를 글레이저 및 스트라우스와 코빈(패러다임 모형의 사용)의 근거이론 접근 방법으로 각각 분석하여, 분석 과정과 연구 결과의 차이를 제시하였다. 스트라우스와 코빈의 접근 방법을 사용한 분석에서는 근거자료의 개념화 및 범주화, 패러다임에 의한 범주 분석, 범주의 통합에 이르는 미시적 분석을 통하여 자료의 체계적인 기술이 가능하였다. 반면, 글레이저의 접근 방법을 사용한 분석에서는 핵심범주인 공무원의 감정노동 수행 원인에 대한 집중적이고 지속적인 비교분석을 통하여 실질적 이론과 형식적 이론이 출현하였다. 근거이론의 접근 방법에 따라 연구 결과의 차이가 존재하며, 이는 연구 목적에 맞는 근거이론 접근 방법을 취용할 당위성을 시사한다. 또한 기존에 존재하는 근거이론의 개념적 형식, 특히 패러다임 모형의 획일적인 사용을 넘어, 개별 연구에 적합한 다양한 이론적 코딩을 개발하여 사용할 필요성을 제기한다.

This study analyzes a research case on emotional labor among public officials using both Glaser's approach and Strauss and Corbin's approach (which uses the paradigm model), presenting differences in the analysis process and research outcomes. The analysis employing Strauss and Corbin’s approach enabled a systematic description of the data by conceptualizing and categorizing empirical findings, analyzing categories through the paradigm model, and integrating them into a coherent framework. In contrast, Glaser’s approach, through focused and constant comparative analysis, led to the emergence of both substantive and formal theories regarding the causes of emotional labor among public officials. These differences highlight the importance of selecting a grounded theory methodology appropriate to the research purpose. Moreover, beyond the uniform use of the conceptual forms of grounded theory, particularly the paradigm model, it is necessary to develop and use various theoretical coding that is suitable for individual studies.
