설악 품의 시역(詩驛), 갈역(葛驛)의지리와 시경(詩境)

Abstract

이 글은 삼연(三淵) 김창흡(金昌翕, 1653～1722)의 갈역 배경 시를 다시 조명하여, 시가 이르고 떠나는 시역(詩驛), 시가 움트고 자라 무성해지는 시림(詩林), 시와 사람이 어우러져 살아갈 시원(詩園)으로서 갈역의 장소 가능성을 타진한 결과이다. 논의는 세 단계로 진행하였다. 2절에서는 삼연의 설악산 애호와 은거 내력을 살폈고, 설악산 창작의 추이와 주요 작품을 표로 제시하였다. 3절에서는 갈역의 위치를 고증하고 장소 특성을 논의하였다. 고증 결과 갈역은 강원도 인제군 북면 백담마을(용대2리)로 밝혀졌다. 이 마을은 백담사(百潭寺)-영시암(永矢庵)- 오세암(五歲庵)으로 이어지는 내설악 명승의 시점이며, 김시습(1435～1493)- 김창흡(1653～1722)-한용운(1879～1944)으로 이어지는 시사(詩史)와 정신사의 한 거점이다. 4절에서는 392수 연작 ｢갈역잡영(葛驛雜詠)｣의 몇 수 시를 해독하여, 시와 장소의 연계 가능성을 구체적으로 검토하였다. 갈역의 위치가 확정됨으로써, 관련 시 작품의 지리적 해석․감상․활용이 가능해졌다. 세상 만물은 서로를 포함하고 생성한다. 지리공간과 문학의 관계 또한 그러하다. 이 글로 인해 김창흡과 백담마을 각각에 대한 이해가 한층 깊어졌다. 이 글은 또 백담마을이 시의 마을로 거듭나는 작은 계기가 되어줄 것이다.

This article reexamines the poem set in Galyeok Station by Samyeon (三淵) Kim Chang-heup (金昌翕, ​​1653-1722). It explores thestation as a site where poetry arrives and departs, a poetic forest where verses sprout and flourish, and a poetic garden where poetry and people coexist in harmony. The discussion unfolds in three stages. Section 2 examines Samyeon's love for Seoraksan Mountain and the history of his seclusion there, tracing the evolution of his creative process and highlighting his major works. Section 3 examines the location of Galyeok Station, exploring its spatial characteristics. The findings indicate that Galyeok Station was located in Baekdam Village (Yongdae 2-ri), Buk-myeon, Inje-gun, Gangwon-do. This village marks the starting point of the Naeseorak scenic area that connects Baekdamsa Temple (百潭寺), Yeongsiam Hermitage (永矢庵), and Oseam Hermitage (五歲庵). It serves as a stronghold of poetic and intellectual activity extending from Kim Si-seup (1435-1493) to Kim Chang-heup and Han Yong-un (1879-1944). Section 4 deciphers several poems from the 392-poem series "Galyeok Japyeong (葛驛雜詠)" and specifically examines the interrelationship between poetry and place. Once the location of Galyeok Station was confirmed, it became possible to interpret, appreciate, and utilize the related poetry in their geographical context. All things in the world encompass and give rise to one another. The relationship between geographic space and literature is also similar. This article deepens the understanding of both Kim Chang-heup and Baekdam Village, and may serve as a small stepping stone toward transforming Baekdam Village into a poetic village.
