전환기 세계질서와 정체성: <블랙호크다운>과 <모가디슈>의 시각으로

Abstract

본 연구는 냉전기에서 탈냉전기로의 세계질서 전환 시점에 나타난 정체성 변화 과정을 기술하되, 사유의 이미지를 국제정치 ‘밖’의 패러다임, 즉 영화예술 영역에 확대⋅적용함으로써 세계질서의 또 다른 전환기에 놓인 오늘의 우리를 돌아본다. 전환기의 정체성 분석을 위한 장소의 실례로는 세계질서의 주변부이자 전근대-근대-탈근대 정체성을 동시에 포괄하는 소말리아를 택했다. 이를 위해 시기적으로는 1990년대 초반 세계질서 전환기를, 공간적으로는 소말리아를 배경으로 하는 작품인 <블랙호크다운>(2001)과 <모가디슈>(2021)를 주요 분석 대상으로 한다. 본 연구는 다음과 같이 구성된다. 먼저 정체성 개념에 대한 인식론⋅방법론적 기반을 논하고, 소말리아의 국제정치적 맥락을 살펴본 후, 상기 두 작품을 통해 투영되는 전환기 행위자들의 정체성을 주요 서사를 통해 분석한다. 마지막으로 본 연구가 발신하는 이론적, 교육적, 정책적 함의를 논한다.

This paper describes the evolving identities that emerged during the shift from the Cold War era to the post-Cold War era, extending the examination beyond international relations to include film as a lens for understanding contemporary global dynamics. Somalia serves as a case study, representing various identity paradigms across different historical epochs, and positioned on the periphery of global power dynamics. Through the analysis of films such as “Black Hawk Down” and “Escape from Mogadishu”, set in Somalia during the early 1990s, the paper explores how identity transformation unfolds amid geopolitical transitions. It begins by laying the epistemological foundation for examining identity shifts, then explores Somalia’s international relations context, and finally analyzes how the identities of various actors evolve within the broader political landscape portrayed in the films. The paper concludes by suggesting implications for theory, education, and policy.
