무용의 재매개 구조로서 ‘비신체적 운동’ - 노먼 맥라렌 추상 애니메이션의 방법론적 재독해

Abstract

본 연구는 노먼 맥라렌의 추상 애니메이션을 무용의 재매개 구조라는 관점에서 재독해함으로써, 인간 신체의 재현이 배제된 조건에서도 무용적 운동이 형성되는 방식을 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 제3장에서는 <브이 포 빅토리>와 <스피어즈>를 중심으로 작품에 나타난 ‘비인격적 운동’의 발생과 조직 양상을 분석하였다. 제4장에서는 이를 재매개 이론과 결합하여, 영상 매체 속에서 운동이 감각적 사건으로 구조화되는 과정을 ‘운동 구조’ 개념으로 이론화하였다. 연구 결과, 맥라렌의 작품에서 운동은 특정 신체나 주체에 종속되지 않고 이미지 간 관계, 반복, 배열 속에서 형성되는 시각적 리듬과 시간 구조로 작동하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 운동은 영상 매체의 시간적·조형적 조건과 결합하면서 ‘비신체적 무용’의 감각 구조로 전환된다. 본 연구는 ‘비인격적 운동’과 재매개 개념을 중심으로 무용의 구조와 운동성을 재정의하는 분석 틀을 제시하며, 디지털 및 영상 매체 환경 속에서 무용 개념이 감각과 관계의 구조로 확장될 수 있음을 이론적으로 제시한다.

This study re-reads Norman McLaren’s abstract animation from the perspective of remediation in dance to examine how choreographic movement can be constituted under non-corporeal conditions. Chapter 3 analyzes the generative and relational organization of impersonal movement in V for Victory and Spheres, while Chapter 4 theorizes this process through the concept of movement structure. The findings show that movement in McLaren’s works operates as visual rhythm and temporal structure formed through relations, repetition, and spatial arrangement rather than bodily expression. Such movement is transformed into a non-corporeal dance structure shaped by the temporal and formal conditions of audiovisual media. This study proposes an analytical framework that redefines dance as a relational and sensory structure beyond the human body.
