| dc.description.abstract | This study examines how mortality salience (MS) influences travel intentions through terror management theory (TMT) and the moderating role of self-transcendence. Study 1 finds that MS enhances self-esteem and cultural worldview, but only self-esteem directly predicts travel intention. Studies 2-4 reveal that unmet self-transcendence needs strengthen the MS-travel intention link, suggesting that travel serves as a means of symbolic immortality. Additionally, memorable or recordable travel experiences amplify this effect. By extending TMT to tourism research, this study provides insights into how mortality awareness shapes travel behavior and informs tourism marketing strategies. | - |
