1935년 조선중앙일보 주최 중국 동화축구단 초청대회의 역사적 의미

Abstract

연구목적 본 연구는 1935년 조선중앙일보의 주최로 열린 중국 동화축구단 초청대회가 조선의 축구 발전에 미친 영향력을 중심으로 대회의 역사적 의미를 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법 본 연구는 중국 동화축구단 초청대회를 주최한 조선중앙일보를 비롯한 일제시기 신문, 잡지와 한국, 중국, 일본의 관련 서적과 논문을 통해 문헌 연구를 실시하였다. 결과 조선중앙일보가 1935년 동화축구단 초청대회를 주최한 이유는 같은 해 일본에서 두 차례 펼쳐질 예정이었던 베를린 올림픽 일본 축구 대표선수 선발전을 겸한 대회를 준비하기 위해서였다. 또한 조선인 경영 신문사들의 경쟁이 치열해진 상황에서 당시 조선축구협회장이었던 여운형이 이끌고 있던 조선중앙일보는 자사의 대중적 홍보를 위해 동화축구단 초청대회를 마련했다. 결론 동화축구단과의 경기를 통해 자신감을 얻은 경성축구단은 일본에서 열린 두 차례 대회에서 우승을 차지했다. 이 승리는 조선의 민중들의 민족적 자부심을 고취했으며 조선 축구의 우월성을 보여준 증거였다. 동화축구단 초청대회는 3경기에 약 6만 명의 관중이 운집했을 정도로 일제시기 조선 최대의 국제 축구 이벤트였다. 여기에는 조선중앙일보의 대대적인 대회 홍보와 다양한 부대 행사 개최가 밑바탕이 됐다.

Purpose This study sought to explore the historical significance on the invitation tournament of Chinese Donghua Football Club held in Korea under the auspices of Chosun Joongang Ilbo in 1935. Methods This study conducted an archival research utilizing newspapers and magazines from the Japanese colonial period, including the Chosun Joongang Ilbo—which hosted the Chinese Donghua Football Club invitation event—as well as related books and academic papers from Korea, China, and Japan. Results The reason why Chosun Joogang Ilbo hosted the invitation tournament was to prepare for the Japanese football tournaments for selecting Japanese national footballers for the Berlin Olympics. Furthermore, amid fierce competition among newspapers operated by Koreans, Chosun Joogang Ilbo, led by Yeo Woon-hyung organized the tournament to promote itself to the general public. Conclusion Gyungsung Football Club, having gained confidence through their victory over Donghua Club with its formidable speed, went on to win both tournaments with a simiilar football style. With Chosun Joogang Ilbo's massive promotion, this tournament could become the largest international football event in Korea during the Japanese colonial period, with approximately 60,000 spectators gathered over three matches.
