- Abstract
- Pipe routing design (PRD) is the planning of pipeline layout, which includes considerations of neatness, economy, and safety. PRD has been studied in various industrial fields, such as ship design, power plant, aeroengine design and largescale integrated circuit design since 1970s. Although it is one of the most important process in commercial vehicle design, no studies performed related PRD have been performed despite of its rising demand. In this research, the design optimization to find the shortest path or route of pipe is performed while satisfying some design constraints such as avoiding obstacles or following some specified vehicle components. Considering characteristics of objective function, the inconsistency within design domain, particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed. A simplified PRD example, which is a design problem to find the shortest route or path from a start point to a goal point while satisfying several constraints, is performed to verify the proposed design method.
