Issues for the Realization of Universal Human Rights in Korean and Japan

Abstract

The role of Korea and Japanin the Far Eastern Asia is important in every aspect of politics, economy, culture and society. Among others, the endeavors for human rights are far more important for the peace in the region. Human rights and peace are indivisible from each other. It is of great importance for the peace in the Far Eastern Asia that Japanshows efforts and will for human rights at both domestic and international level. Without doubt, this is interest of Korea and Asia as a whole which had been suffered by Japan. To this end, I would like to take this opportunity to elaborate several points on what issues for the realization of universal human rights that Korean and Japan have and then what to do in regard to the previous issues. Firstly, Korean and Japanshould take a leading role in the international trends for the realization of universal human rights. Secondly, Japanshould introduce a national human rights institution as soon as possible. Thirdly, experts in Korea and Japan should develop theories for the application of the international human rights law at the domestic level and apply them to practice Fourthly, both countries should engage in the international criminal procedures and modify domestic institutions inorder to prevent crimes against humanity. Lastly, education in international law and human rights law should be strengthened in the legal curriculum.
