| dc.description.abstract | Small interfering RNA (siRNA) has been recognized as a powerful tool for a sequence-specific gene silencing. We tested the hypothesis that the systemic delivery of siRNA targeting an apoptotic death receptor (Fas) could prevent or delay the onset of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). The intravenous administration of Fas siRNA/PEI complexes showed a capability of preventing cyclophosphamide (Cy)-induced diabetes in NOD mice. The systemic treatment of Fas siRNA/PEI complexes also delayed the onset of insulitis in the islet of Langerhans. | - |
