dc.description.abstractThe micromechanical approach was used to investigate the interfacial behavior of a unidirectional composite under transverse loading. Representative volume elements(RVE) for the analysis were composed of regulerfiber arrays(square and hexagonal arrays). The finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the effective material properties of a carbon/epoxy composite and to analyse the normal, tangential and shear strains at the interface. The mocrostructural fiber arrangement would have a great influence on interfacial strain distributions while it little affects the effective material properties. The RVE with random fiver arrays will be considered in the future work.-
